Homework Grade 7th A and B

Instruction: Copy the information in your notebook.
This homework is for Friday February 19th.

"Question Intonation".
Questions in English are normally asked using questions forms, in which the subject and the verb of the sentence change places.
Sometimes, however, questions are asked using regular declarative statement forms, in wich the subject comes before the verb in the sentence.
When questions are asked using declarative forms, these forms end with a rising, question intonation. This question intonation tells you that what you hear is a question and not a statement.

Example:
He wants to go. (Falling intonation) The statement is telling what he wants to do.
He wants to go? (Raising intonation) The statement is asking what he wants to do.
